Install so you can compress a clip for Discord

Paste this into Windows Terminal or Command Prompt:

HandBrake needs .NET Desktop Runtime 10 from Microsoft. If the app will not open, install that runtime from Microsoft, then try again. We do not host the runtime.

How to compress a video for Discord

Install HandBrake with the command on this page, or take HandBrake-1.11.2-x86_64-Win_GUI.exe from GitHub Releases (ARM: HandBrake-1.11.2-arm64-Win_GUI.exe). Add .NET Desktop Runtime 10 from Microsoft if needed.
Open HandBrake.
Open the clip you want to send on Discord. Save it to this PC first if it still lives only in another app.
Pick a smaller size in the app. Use the size controls HandBrake shows. We will not invent a preset title or an RF number.
Start encode. Wait until the new file finishes.
Try sending the new file on Discord. If Discord still refuses, pick a smaller size and encode again until it sends. Check Discord's own help for the cap on that account.

The cap is Discord's, not this app's

Discord decides how large an upload can be. That cap can change. It can differ from one account to another. A friend may send a file you cannot send. That is Discord, not a broken install. Open Discord's own help and read the upload size for the account you are using today. We will not copy a number that will rot.

Do not trust a screenshot from a forum thread. Do not trust a YouTube overlay with a megabyte badge. Those pages go stale. Discord's help is the live source. If help lists a cap, aim under it. If help is unclear, encode, try send, encode smaller. The refuse dialog is the measurement.

If your account has a higher cap than a friend's, Discord's help will say so. This page still compresses until the file sends on the account in front of you.

Make a clip, not a movie

A two-hour recording is a bad Discord attach. Cut the moment you actually want to show, then compress that. HandBrake encodes the file you open. If the file is an hour long, the copy is still an hour long. Shorter source, smaller file, faster send. Trim in another tool if you need a trim, then open the short clip here.

A ten-second fail, a thirty-second demo, a one-minute reply: those are Discord clips. A lecture is a link or a file host, not a chat attach. If you only needed a smaller archive on disk, that is Video size reducer, not this send loop.

Start with a short known clip as the first test. Confirm HandBrake writes a copy you can play. Then send that copy. If the first send works, you know the loop. Then open the real clip and pick a size in the same ballpark.

Pick a smaller size, then send, then shrink again

There is no honest megabyte we can print. Pick a smaller size than the source. Encode. Try send. If Discord refuses, pick a smaller size. Encode again. Two or three passes on a short clip is normal. Do not sit on the first output if the attach failed.

Resolution is a hard lever. A chat clip does not need a huge frame. Drop the frame size in the app if the picture is far larger than a Discord player will show. Bitrate is the other lever. Audio can be light. A meme does not need surround. Leave a simple stereo track, or mute if the clip is silent anyway. Extra tracks add bytes you will not hear in a Discord player.

Watch the copy once before you send it. If faces smear, raise size a step. If Discord still refuses, drop size a step. The send is the pass/fail. Picture quality is your call inside that pass.

Try sending on Discord

Attach the new file in the chat you meant. Wait for Discord to accept or refuse. A refuse is not a HandBrake crash. Encode smaller. A hang on "uploading" can be your network. Try again on a stable connection before you crush the picture further.

If the attach starts and then fails, check that you picked the new file, not the original. Sort the folder by date. The new encode should be the one you just wrote. Sending the camera original is the usual miss.

If Discord accepts the file and the player in the client is black, the box or the tracks may be a type that client will not play. Try an MP4 output if the first copy used another box.
